Polycarbonate is THE MOST REQUESTED MATERIAL to manufacture IDENTITY CARDS by governments, thanks to its excellent properties.
The main characteristic of polycarbonate is that, when used in its pure form, IT IS NON-DELAMINABLE. During the lamination process the different films of polycarbonate fuse together to create a single card body. The different layers cannot be divided without destroying the card. This is an excellent protection against counterfeiting.
The personalization with the card holder’s information is commonly performed with LASER ENGRAVING which results in a PERMANENT MARK. Polycarbonate cards can also include colour photos, made by re-transfer printing.
In addition polycarbonate identity cards can incorporate all SECURITY FEATURES: micro texts, guilloches, wood inks, variable inks (OVIs), holograms etc.
Polycarbonate identity cards are available with a CHOICE OF INTERFACES: contact, contactless, hybrid and dual interface.
Last but not least, polycarbonate identity cards have a VERY LONG LIFESPAN, they can last for about 10 years. The excellent strength and durability of polycarbonate allow for longer re-issuance cycles, positively influencing the cost reductions.
